Cross Creek West cut short their tour to Tucson, reorganizing after the San Diego wildfires disrupted the training routine at the farm. Although flames came within three miles of the farm, fortunately there was no damage or threat to the property. Even so all horses were evacuated for safekeeping to other facilities for a few days until it was obvious that the danger had passed by. As a result, only a few horses made the trip to Tucson for the last week of the circuit – but the results were gratifying nevertheless.
Devon Bridges and his grey gelding Zhivago won three consecutive jumper classes – a Level 3 and two Level 4 events. Katie LeDoux was champion in the Level 4 Non-Pro jumpers on her careful veteran Paladin. Katie and Paladin also laid down a clean first-round in the $5,000 Ch/AA Jumper Classic, but unfortunately two time faults kept them out of the jump-off.
CCF Hostess and Michelle Parker took home the championship rosette in the Pre-Green hunter division, taking two firsts and two seconds over fences, even though this was only her third horse show ever.
Other wins for horses ridden by Michelle included:
Kyoto – owned by Angie Firestone of Tucson – Reserve Champion Baby Green Hunters
Dublin – owned by Betsy Cunningham of Tucson – a 1st and a 2nd in the Pre-Green hunters (swapping ribbons with CCF Hostess)
Fabulous – owned by Liz Adkins of Tucson – a 1st and a 2nd in Level 4 and Level 5 jumpers.
Cheer’s Smoothie – owned by Kimberly Drake of Chino, California – consistently clean and in the ribbons in the Level 5 jumpers.
