Two Weeks in Tucson

Michelle and Alex spent two weeks in Tucson with a string of high quality jumpers. They arrived just in time to compete in the SW Fair Commission’s Variable Grand Prix at the Tucson Fall Preview show and galloped away with 1st place aboard Tula Pinella’s Reina and a 4th for Michelle’s own horse Clever. Two more weeks of showing followed: the Tucson Fall Festival and the Tucson Fall Classic. At the Festival more blue ribbons for Lassila de Moyon (1.2m jumpers) ridden by Alex Alvarado, Solomon’s Pride (1.3m jumpers and the EMO Mike Moran Five Bar), and Xel-ha (7-8 year old jumpers), and Reina placed 2nd in Friday’s $5,000 Welcome Stake.

Last show of the year was the Tucson Fall Classic where Michelle ended the season with a one-two punch in Sunday’s Grand Prix, scoring 1st place on Clever and a close 2nd with Xel-ha. With six horses in the jump off, Bjorn Ikast laid down two clean trips on his mounts before Michelle aboard Xel-ha beat his time. Xel-ha’s time held until the very last round when Michelle squeaked in an even faster round aboard Clever to take home the blue. In addition Cross Creek Farms’ Tocayo was the winner of Friday’s $7,500Welcome Stake, and Lassila de Moyon with Alex earned the championship in the 1.2m jumpers. Michelle’s only hunter ride of the circuit was Angie Firestone’s youngster Accordingly who brought home several blue ribbons in the Restricted Hunter division, as well as prizes in his debut in the jumper ring.

The horses are home for some downtime before the 2011 circuit starts up. Thanks to the entire Cross Creek West team for their professionalism and hard work that contributed so much to a successful season.

A Red White and BLUE Ribbon Day for Socrates & Michelle

Contrats to Michelle Parker on ANOTHER win aboard her Socrates de Midos, Cross Creek Farms’ handsome gray gelding who just keeps bringing home the Grand Prix prize money to pay for his oats.  This time the venue was the $25,000 Red White and Blue Festival at the Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano.

Nineteen horses competed, with only Socrates and Chello Z (Josephina Nor-Lantzman) going clean in the first round.  Socrates went first in the jump off, starting out conservatively but really opening up his big stride at the end to win by .28 of a second.  Michelle also brought home an 8th place ribbon aboard her second ride, Clever.

Other recent placings for Socrates include a strong 3rd place finish in the $35,000 Blenheim Spring Classic III Grand Prix and an 8th place finish last weekend in the $30,000 Copa de Amistad Grand Prix also at the Mission Viejo Park.

Reina Wins a Double Victory in Tucson

PRESS (Chronicle of the Horse)

PRESS (HITS Press Release)

Reina, Tula Pinella’s Holsteiner mare, had a great weekend in Tucson during the 2010 HITS Arizona Desert Circuit. In only the second Grand Prix of her career, she jumped to the win in the $25,000 Strongid C 2X Grand Prix, laying down a double-clean round that stood up to challenges by Brandie Holloway on Alley Oop and Bjorn Ikast on Omar Shariff. Both followed Reina in the jump-off but dropped rails trying to best her time. The Grand Prix wasn’t Reina’s only win – on Friday she topped the $5,000 Open Welcome Class for a double-header, and the previous weekend in her first ever Grand Prix she placed fourth with a another double-clean performance.

Cross Creek West traveled to Tucson to compete during the final three weeks of the six-week long HITS circuit. Disappointingly, a deluge of rain caused the cancellation of the first Grand Prix, although Michelle aboard Socrates de Midos did enjoy winning the Friday $5,000 Welcome class.

However the final two weeks of the circuit were highlighted by a multitude of clean rounds and high placings. During the Arizona Winter Festival Michelle rode Reina, Clever and Socrates de Midos all to clean rounds in the Grand Prix, ultimately placing 3rd, 4th and 5th. During the Arizona Desert Finals she placed 1st and 2nd in the $5,000 Welcome, and again garnered multiple prizes in the Grand Prix. In addition to Reina’s blue, Michelle took home two more ribbons aboard Clever (5th) and Socrates (9th).

Cross Creek West has moved on to Houston for the Pin Oaks Charity Horse Shows. Good luck in the Lone Star State!

Athletica wins $5,000 Super Stake

IMG_0197-624-625Cross Creek West had a good showing at the Tucson Fall Festival and the Tucson Fall Classic horse shows in Arizona this month.  Michelle brought a string of young up-and-coming equine stars to gain some experience and ring mileage.  All moved up in levels and earned some nice prizes in the big money classes offered at the shows.

Best video footage of the show was taken the last week during the $5,000 Super Stake on Saturday.  The grey mare Athletica with Michelle in the irons was double-clean with a blazing fast jump off round that no one could touch.  The second place horse was almost 5 seconds slower!  Click HERE to watch the video of Athletica’s winning round.

Other notable prizes went to Reina who placed 3rd in the Grand Prix and Tocayo who placed 4th in the same Grand Prix.  Photo of the week (above) went to Xel-ha, an impressive six-year-old mare who jumped the standards in the triple combination.

Congrats to all!

Socrates de Midos

Going forward our handsome gray  jumper Socrates, owned by Cross Creek Farms, will be known by his official FEI passport name Socrates de Midos.

Under either name he continues to add to his winning grand prix record – since his debut in the Grand Prix ring this past March he has garnered two 1sts, two 2nds, two 4ths and several other placings – all at Grand Prix level.  Consistent and level-headed, this scopey horse has proven to be a real contender.

Most recently at the Showpark August Festival he laid down a fast double-clean round in a large 40 horse field with 16 clean to come back in the jump-off.  Fifth in the jump off order, he was the first to go double-clean and then had to wait out eleven more competitors with the opportunity to best his time.  Ali Nilforushan and Green Sleepes Vioco finally managed to squeak past Socrates, but we were quite pleased with the 2nd place prize added to his consistent performances of 2009 which include:

1st – $25,000 Arizona Winter Festival Grand Prix

1st – $35,000 Spring Classic III Grand Prix

2nd – $25,000 Sahuaro Classic Grand Prix

2nd – $25,000 August Festival Grand Prix

4th – $25,000 Arizona Desert Finals Grand Prix

4th – $25,000 Red, White and Blue Grand Prix

7th – $25,000 L.A. International Open Stake

9th – $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar

9th – $25,000 Racing Festival Grand Prix

10th – $50,000 Los Angeles National Grand Prix (World Cup Qualifier)
